Born and raised in North Haven, I know this town inside and out—I went to North Haven High School and have worked on homes throughout the area.
From the North Haven Town Green and its historic properties to older homes throughout town, I’ve seen firsthand where bats get in—roofline transitions, soffits, vents, and aging construction details that create small entry points.
Areas like Peter’s Rock Park, Todd’s Pond, the Quinnipiac River corridor, and wooded sections of town provide ideal habitat for bats. Homes near these areas are more likely to develop bat problems over time.
Knowing where bats get in—and how they behave in this area—is the difference between a temporary fix and getting it done right. I’ve seen what happens when bat work isn’t done properly—and I’ve been called in to fix it.
North Haven’s history and layout naturally attract bats.
The Town Green area—with its historic cemetery and monuments—offers quiet, warm surroundings. Older structures like Memorial Town Hall and homes along Church Street, Broadway, and Elm Street often have wide eaves, aging materials, and tiny structural gaps that bats exploit.
Nearby natural areas like Peter’s Rock Park and Quinnipiac River State Park provide:
That combination makes nearby homes ideal roosting spots.
Suburban neighborhoods off Route 5 and around the Pines Bridge area add:
All perfect conditions for bat colonies.
Bats are quiet—but they leave clear signs if you know what to look for.
Stay calm—bats are lost, not aggressive. They’re trying to find a way out.
If the bat was:
👉 Do NOT release it — it may need to be tested for rabies.
Rabies in bats is rare (less than 1% in Connecticut)—but bites can be tiny and go unnoticed.
That’s why we follow strict guidelines from the Connecticut Department of Public Health and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to protect you and your family.
What to do:
Gently trap the bat (see below), release it outside under a tree or bush away from the home, then call me to seal the entry point so it doesn’t return.
🚫 Do NOT hit or injure the bat — the head must remain intact for accurate rabies testing.

I personally inspect everything—attics, eaves, vents, chimneys, and soffits across your North Haven home.
For more complex situations, I monitor bat activity at dusk to identify every entry point—often as small as ½ inch.
Professional devices are installed so bats can exit safely but cannot return.

Bat guano is not toxic, but dried droppings can contain Histoplasma spores, which may cause histoplasmosis if disturbed.
In hot, dry North Haven attics, the risk is generally low—but not zero, especially with larger accumulations.
I always:
For larger accumulations, professional cleanup is recommended.
